A Mexican migrant diagnosed with leukemia has died after being held in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), prompting allegations of medical negligence and renewed scrutiny over healthcare conditions inside immigration detention facilities. The man, identified by Mexican authorities as José Guadalupe Ramos Solano, died after being detained at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center in Southern California. According to ICE, Ramos had several pre-existing medical conditions, including diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol. They allege his health deteriorated despite repeated requests for care, claims that have fueled broader criticism of medical treatment within ICE facilities. Several advocacy groups have filed lawsuits alleging inadequate medical treatment, delayed diagnoses and poor living conditions at facilities operated by private prison contractors under ICE contracts.
