LAHORE – Electricity consumers may soon face another financial blow as Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) approached National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to allow it to recover Rs2.35 billion through the quarterly tariff adjustment mechanism. The request covers April to June period and, if approved, could bring another increase in electricity bills for millions of consumers across LESCO’s service area. The company says its fixed costs remain largely unchanged even when fewer units of electricity are sold, making tariff adjustments necessary to recover expenses. Official documents reveal that household electricity consumption dropped by 8% compared to the same period last year, while commercial electricity usage fell by 7%. Overall electricity consumption across the LESCO network declined by around 4%, reflecting weaker demand.
