JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved during a special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 4, agreeing to a 50-50 split on a 1.5% sales tax if a proposed amendment for a city of Jamestown sales and use tax is approved by the Jamestown City Council.
The city and the Jamestown Parks and Recreation District would each receive a 0.75% sales tax with the 50-50 split on the proposed 1.5% sales tax.
The City Council is looking to use the sales tax revenue for infrastructure projects or other projects that benefit the city.
That means the sales tax in Jamestown would be 8% — a 5% state sales tax and a 3% city sales tax — if the amendment is approved.
That includes a state sales tax of 5% and a city sales tax of 2.5%.
