Police considered that Mr Cutts could have made the marks himself while lying or moving close to the floor. No blood or DNA belonging to Mrs Cutts or any third party was detected, and investigators found no evidence of criminality. Mr Cutts' cause of death was recorded as haemorrhage from injury to a leg, while Mrs Cutts' was recorded as injury sustained in a fall.
