The Kirkgate Arts and Heritage Centre, based in what was a Victorian-era school in the heart of town, has launched an urgent fundraising effort to replace 40 windows to the side and rear of the building. The centre is now asking people to sponsor one or more of the 40 individual windowpanes to help the centre reach its £36,000 target. "The Kirkgate is a much-loved institution in Cockermouth and throughout West Cumbria but the fabric of the building reflects its considerable age. The campaign was launched by the Kirkgate at a stand in the Cockermouth Chamber of Trade tent at the Cockermouth Show on Saturday, August 1.
