Traces of its earlier course remain visible across the fields as a network of former channels, which are now partly occupied by agricultural ditches. The report says this provides a 'natural template for restoration', with floodwater already tending to follow the old route during high flows. Around 4,600 cubic metres of soil, sand and gravel would be excavated across 0.6 hectares of the 33-hectare agricultural holding. Hydraulic modelling found that flooding would increase within the site, as intended, but concluded the scheme would not increase flood risk downstream or affect property. The Lake District National Park Authority has been asked to determine whether prior approval is required under agricultural permitted-development rules.
