The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has condemned the freezing of the Osun State Government’s bank accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing the action, taken days before the governorship election, as interference in the electoral process. In a statement issued by the Chairman of its Media and Publicity Committee, Mr Bamidele Salam, the council described the action as an abuse of authority and an attack on the people of Osun State. Nothing other than politics can explain the EFCC’s decision to freeze the Osun State Government’s accounts days before an election in which the incumbent is a candidate,” he said. The EFCC said the investigation alone would not have warranted freezing the accounts, but claimed it detected suspicious movement of funds from the government’s accounts beginning August 2.
