Sony has sneaked in a small change to the PS5 console’s retail box, which is already upsetting players who’ve realized what it means. “IMPORTANT NOTICE: Starting in January 2028, new PlayStation game releases will be available for purchase on PlayStation Store and through retailers exclusively in digital format,” the notice reads. “Game discs released before January 2028 will continue to be compatible with this console.” I must admit that the numbers aren’t looking good for discs, as all major publishers have confirmed that a vast majority of their game sales are digital. The question now revolves around Sony’s plans for existing PS5 discs when the PS6 is launched.
