Before La Bola Negra, Marriage Story took the lead with a 31-day theatrical window. La Bola Negra was acquired by Netflix after it premiered at the Cannes Film festival earlier this year, where it received a 20-minute standing ovation. In a statement the directors had to share,When we began writing La Bola Negra, we wanted to tell a story about freedom, legacy, and the importance of LGBTQ+ visibility. It was also in the same statement where they shared how they felt about being acquired by Netflix.
