The application had previously been deferred by councillors in December 2025 after the committee said it was minded to approve the development but wanted further investigation into whether it could support affordable housing. At the latest meeting, councillors were told the developer's Financial Viability Appraisal found the scheme could not economically support affordable housing contributions, whether the apartments were rented out or sold individually. The consultant agreed the development could not viably support either affordable housing contributions or Section 106 payments. During the meeting, Councillor Lee Hall said he was disappointed that no affordable housing would be provided and described it as a common position advanced by developers. However, planning officers advised members that a health contribution would not be viable in this case for similar reasons.
