"Whenever tech companies are developing platforms, they need to ensure that, right from the beginning, they incorporate safety features that can detect harm and identify a possible trafficker or someone attempting to exploit a minor," Sr. Shinondo said. Sr. Shinondo also advocated mandatory due diligence by technology companies to identify vulnerabilities that traffickers, hackers, and online predators could exploit. Beyond technological solutions, she stressed that safeguarding children begins within families and communities. In a related presentation titled “Empowering Children and Youth for Safe Digital Citizenship,” Sr. Babitha Abraham Valiaparambil described the digital environment as both an unprecedented opportunity for learning and participation and a growing source of risk for children and young people.
