Fresh data compiled by the Bengal government suggests only around 7 lakh of the 27 lakh voters removed after the SIR adjudication process challenged their exclusion, despite earlier reports indicating tribunals had received over 30 lakh appeals. According to the government, more than 20 lakh appeals were filed by the Election Commission itself, challenging decisions by adjudicators who had cleared nearly 33 lakh voters for inclusion. Government sources said deleted voters had the option of filing appeals both online and offline. Acting on directions from the Supreme Court, 705 judicial officers examined these cases, ultimately clearing nearly 33 lakh voters for inclusion while 27 lakh remained excluded. Government sources now say district-wise reports have enabled authorities to verify the number of appeals filed against deletions.
