The swimmers - a man and a boy - were being drawn out to sea, a spokesperson for HM Coastguard said. Rescue teams were also sent to help. Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and Sandown Independent Lifeboat were alerted just before 4pm yesterday (Wednesday). Both swimmers were taken to hospital by ambulance for observation. HM Coastguard is part of the Phone, Float, Throw campaign, encouraging people to phone 999, telling them to float, and throw rescue gear, rather than jump in.
