Ryan Grant runs the Mid-Minnesota Lumber yard, including both before and after CoreCivic closed the Prairie Correctional Facility back in 2010.
Over the years the city has worked to get the correctional facility re-opened.
Nine years ago, it posed a petition to Change.org asking for support of a federal grant that would have helped the correctional facility reopen.
Upon learning that CoreCivic had secured a new contract with the federal government starting August 11th, the city issued this statement:“The City of Appleton, MN welcomes the reopening of the CoreCivic facility.
“We have had some protesters in town,” Grant said.
