The city has now opened a public comment period on the proposed project as they also consider a special ordinance to build one. The mayor added having a framework for companies like MiEnergy and Dairyland Power Cooperative, who have approached the city about building a data center, could settle fears in the community. Some, however, feel the possible tax benefit, doesn’t outweigh the cost to the community. Some of the major concerns is the impact a data center would have on water, electricity, the environment and noise pollution. Under the proposed ordinance, the data center would have to be at least 500 feet from agricultural or industrial land.
