West Nile Virus Cases Continue to Rise Across the Country

Μake us preferred on GoogleWest Nile virus infections continue to increase in Greece, with the National Public Health Organization (EODY) reporting 23 new locally transmitted cases over the past week.
Since the start of the 2026 surveillance period through August 5, a total of 65 locally acquired cases have been confirmed.
The virus has so far claimed six lives, all involving patients over the age of 65 who developed central nervous system complications.
So far this year, West Nile virus cases have been recorded and investigated in 25 municipalities across 10 regional units in the regions of Attica, Thessaly and Central Macedonia.
The affected regional units include East Attica, North Athens, West Attica, Central Athens, South Athens, Karditsa, Larissa, Trikala, Pella and Serres.
