The boss of Airservices Australia says safety is the organisation’s top priority as authorities investigate a near-miss at the country’s busiest airport.
The experience level of staff — including traffic control — and how long they had been on duty that day is now under investigation.
“We do know that there has been some significant stresses on the entire ecosystem,” Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) chief commissioner and chief executive Angus Mitchell said.
“We have a well-honed safety management system including a specific fatigue management system,” Sharp said.
“We have well-honed protocols to look at the staff, how we handle them — we support our staff as well through any particular incident,” Sharp said.
