The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the arrest of Sumit Roy, Personal Assistant to Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, in connection with the alleged Salboni land-grabbing case, while directing him to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation. However, his arrest will remain stayed," the Bench ordered. The Court further directed that Roy must appear before the investigating agency without being accompanied by any advocate or any other person during questioning. Senior Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing for Roy, submitted that his client had already been granted anticipatory bail by the Calcutta High Court in another case relating to the alleged cash-for-jobs scam. He argued that the FIR in the present case was registered only after the new government assumed office and sought similar protection, assuring the Court that Roy would cooperate with the investigation.
