In a statement to reporters on Wednesday, Baghaei announced that discussions between Iran and Oman have been ongoing for the last two months. The aim of these talks is to develop a secure transit protocol for commercial vessels navigating the crucial maritime corridor. The spokesperson reported that discussions addressed the technical, legal, security, and environmental dimensions of the proposed shipping corridor, undertaken in collaboration with pertinent Iranian authorities. Baghaei dismissed assertions that a bilateral agreement with Oman would inevitably result in the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Baghaei commented shortly after Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz might soon reopen, referencing purported “progress in negotiations” with Tehran.
