Fans of big band jazz will have an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of live music this weekend without spending a dime. The Lake Effect Jazz Big Band returns to The Acorn Theater in Three Oaks on Sunday, August 9, for a free 3 p.m. performance featuring vocalist Becky Selvidge. Now in its 27th year, the Lake Effect Jazz Big Band has become one of Southwest Michigan’s enduring nonprofit musical organizations. The 22-piece ensemble brings together many of the region’s top musicians, performing everything from swing-era classics such as In the Mood, Mack the Knife, Misty and Ain’t Misbehavin’ to contemporary big band arrangements by today’s jazz composers. Sunday’s performance is part of The Acorn’s summer concert series, with admission made free through grant support secured by the Three Oaks performing arts venue.
