Letter to the editor:Dear sir/madame, I am raising awareness regarding serious concerns surrounding tourist safety during Antigua Carnival following a traumatic incident involving my husband, who was randomly stabbed by an individual while attending the celebrations. Carnival is promoted as a time for visitors and residents to come together, celebrate, and enjoy Antigua’s culture. I believe visitors attending large events should be made aware of potential safety concerns, particularly where there may be limited CCTV coverage and challenges in identifying and apprehending perpetrators after such incidents occur. I am sharing this experience not to discourage people from visiting Antigua, but to highlight important concerns around public safety, emergency response, and the need for improvements. Tourists and residents deserve to feel safe when attending major cultural events, and anyone injured in a serious incident should receive timely and appropriate emergency medical care.
