(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah health officials say nearly 50 cases of cyclosporiasis have now been reported across the state.
Officials say the parasite, which can cause diarrhea, nausea and fatigue, has been linked to a nationwide outbreak.
Nearly all of Utah’s 48 cases involved people who traveled outside the U.S., while 12 others had traveled to other states.
Only five patients had no recent travel history, including one case diagnosed in Salt Lake City in June.
The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food says none of the recalled vegetable products linked to the outbreak were distributed in Utah.
