Sheffield’s Tank Club will close its doors for good this month. The 400-capacity venue announced the news in an Instagram post yesterday (5th August), citing “ever-growing costs and obstacles” as the reason behind the closure. But behind the scenes, the cost of running the venue continued to grow, becoming harder to swallow every single month,” the post continued. Tank confirmed its final parties will take place this weekend, with the closing party scheduled for Saturday. Opened in 2014 between Sheffield’s Odeon Luxe cinema and Sheffield Hallam University, Tank became an important hub for the city’s electronic music scene, hosting everything from Sheffield-originating bassline to house, techno and garage.
