Not every Bible passage is clear, and one that has perplexed many is the subject of a recovered sermon from St Augustine of Hippo, recently identified after lying in the diocesan library of Pelpin, in Pomerania, Poland.
“Several centuries lie between Augustine and this 12th-century scribe, so it is easy to imagine that errors occurred during transmission.
Augustine is flexible according to Professor Tornau and EWTN.
“’In the new sermons, St. Augustine discusses both possibilities along with their advantages and drawbacks and concludes that both are acceptable because neither contradicts the Christian faith,’ the professor noted.
But in the sermons, Augustine goes further.
