North Dakota Kratom Ban Takes Effect Starting Today

The Williston Police Department is reminding residents that a statewide prohibition on kratom takes effect at 5 p.m. Wednesday under an executive order issued by Governor Kelly Armstrong declaring a public health emergency.
North Dakota Bans Kratom Sales Starting August 5, 2025On Monday Governor Armstrong and Attorney General Drew Wrigley announced a multi facited approach including the prohibition, and a special session set for September 2nd.
The order temporarily bans the sale, possession and use of kratom products across North Dakota for 30 days.
North Dakota Cattle Theft Case Ends With Prison SentenceThe North Dakota Board of Pharmacy has also classified 7-hydroxymitragynine, or 7-OH, a key psychoactive compound in many kratom products, as a Schedule I controlled substance.
Police are encouraging retailers to remove kratom products from shelves, review inventory and stop further purchases.
