The newly established beetle genus Luffy was not given its name simply as a playful reference.
Two New Luffy Beetle SpeciesSo far, scientists have identified two species belonging to the new genus: Luffy schillhammeri and Luffy nika.
The second species, Luffy nika, was found in Louang Namtha in northern Laos.
Luffy beetles have the dorsal ridge teeth found in this lineage, but their labrum is not completely sclerotized.
Based on this combination of traits, the researchers concluded that Luffy is probably the sister group of the entire Eucibdelus lineage.
