According to the legal team, VDM welcomed the police decision to investigate the claims and reiterated that he had never opposed any lawful probe. On the contrary, he remains ready, willing and available to honour any invitation lawfully extended to him by the Nigeria Police Force.” As part of the conditions for honouring the invitation, the lawyers requested that representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association, civil society organisations and other independent observers be allowed to monitor the interview. They also demanded that VDM’s legal representatives be permitted to accompany him throughout the interrogation at the FCID headquarters in Abuja. The lawyers reaffirmed that VDM remained committed to appearing before the FCID in line with the police invitation.
