The Public Services Fightback Forum closed with an outline of a regional fightback centered around organising workers, strong public services and movement building with the people who depend on these services. The consensus of arguments and interventions are that public service workers are not only defending their jobs. Wage freezes, cuts and privatisation now sit beside a sharper threat: the use of the state against migrants, minorities, workers and unions. Bertossa noted that "Public service unions are targeted because they can resist the capture of public institutions and offer people a practical alternative". He further added that"Public service workers have a unique role in creating hope" , pointing to care, clean water, reliable electricity, education and health as the foundations of a better life.
