The High Street car park was previously one of the prime places to park in the town centre, with 980 spaces and a walking link to the Princess Square shopping area.
But the multi-storey car park was closed nearly three years ago in October 2023 due to the building, which was constructed in the 1970s, showing signs of significant structural deterioration.
A decision on the complete demolition of the car park is set to be made soon.
The development partnership in charge of the town centre regeneration wants to replace it with apartments.
“Among other ambitions, the SPD seeks to see improved connectivity through the High Street Car Park site with other parts of the town centre, which would not be realised without the demolition of the existing buildings.”
