As World Breastfeeding Week is observed from August 1 to 7, doctors are reiterating that breastfeeding is far more than just feeding a baby. "The first form of breast milk produced after birth, known as colostrum, is especially valuable. According to Dr Kumari, breastfeeding stimulates the release of oxytocin, which helps the uterus contract after childbirth, reducing postpartum bleeding and supporting faster recovery. She explains that breast milk production is influenced not just by the breasts but also by hormonal signals from the brain.
