A St. Paul woman is accusing Chipotle of serving her a burrito bowl this summer that caused a salmonella infection that resulted in a hospital stay for life-threatening complications. Genomic sequencing of stool samples from sickened individuals has linked the cases to the same salmonella strain. Public health officials expect more recent illnesses to be linked to the outbreak now that people know about it. Minnesota reports more than 1,000 cases per year of salmonella, including some isolated cases as well as outbreaks linked to restaurants or social gatherings at which food is served. In Behne's case, she topped her burrito bowl with two salsas and guacamole, all of which are made with jalapenos, her lawsuit stated.
