Qantas welcomes first A321XLRQantas has taken delivery of its first A321XLR, registered VH-OGA and officially named ‘Great Ocean Road’. A total of 28 A321XLRs were ordered under Project Winton, the airline’s domestic fleet renewal program announced in 2021, where it famously snubbed previous preferred supplier Boeing for the European planemaking giant Airbus. The delivery flight certainly made a show of the A321XLR’s impressive range. With the extra-long-range narrow-body making just one stopover between Europe and Australia, VH-OGA performed the longest-ever A321 flight performed by a commercial airline, at over 9,000km flown. The plane was ferried from Airbus’ final assembly plant at Hamburg Finkenwerder Airport on 30 June, undertaking an initial 11-hour and 8-minute flight to Bangkok International Airport.
