Oxford City Council would have become the end owner of the flats if the planning application went ahead, documents say. This would therefore increase the council’s temporary accommodation stock overall from around 200 homes today. They say: "Temporary accommodation, such as herein proposed, supports people who would otherwise be homeless, and can happen for a range of reasons eg including rising rents and relationship breakdowns. There are around 300 households in temporary accommodation in Oxford. Purchasing homes, such as the seven flats in Cinnaminta Road, could save the city council around £14.5m a year in hotel costs.
