ADVERTISEMENTThe triple crown consists of winning the SDGA Amateur Championship, which Sigmund won in 2012, the Match Play Championship and the Two-Man Championship, which he won twice alongside longtime friend Jeff Meyerink in 2014 and 2020.
The Mitchell golfer defeated Hartford’s Radley Mauney 3-and-1 in the championship match to claim his first SDGA Match Play title, the lone remaining championship that he needed to complete the trifecta.
Sigmund never believed his game was capable of winning the state’s premier amateur event, let alone also winning two SDGA Two-Man Championships with Meyerink.
For more than a decade, the Match Play title seemed out of reach for Sigmund.
Sigmund rolled in the 20-footer to save par, preserving his lead and giving him the confidence that the match play championship, and the career triple crown, was finally within reach.
