Owned by Suffolk County Council, Kirkley Ham - a seven-acre site known for its wildlife and greenery in south Lowestoft - has become overgrown with gorse and bramble and suffered littering, fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour in recent years. Now, works to revitalise the green space have been boosted by £2,050 of funding from East Suffolk councillors Peter Byatt, Louise Gooch and Malcolm Pitchers. In a joint statement, councillors Byatt, Gooch and Pitchers said: "We are so pleased to contribute funding from our enabling communities budgets towards the restoration of Kirkley Ham. "Many residents will recall playing here as children, so we are grateful to the Friends of Kirkley Ham group for their efforts to bring it back to its former glory. County council leader Michael Hadwen said: "Kirkley Ham is a valued space with enormous potential.
