Jason Arday’s resignation letter from Cambridge University may have been, like important parts of his stellar academic career, a fabrication. As criticism mounted online, Dr Arday won sympathy for being a member of a racial minority singled out for his success. The professor made a harassment complaint to Scotland Yard, which investigated Grove for four months and told him not to contact Dr Arday again because his approaches caused Dr Arday psychological harm. Meanwhile, Dr Arday hired a law firm, which threatened the magazine and suggested Grove’s reporting might be “racially motivated”.
