Once in Congress, Bush served on the House Judiciary Committee and the Committee on Oversight and Reform, later known as Oversight and Accountability. Bell first defeated Bush in the 2024 Democratic primary, when he was still serving as St. Louis County prosecuting attorney. Bell, meanwhile, enjoyed support from House Democratic leadership, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, along with the Congressional Black Caucus. He campaigned on his work in Congress, including efforts tied to disaster recovery after a tornado affected the St. Louis area in 2025. Missouri’s 1st District includes St. Louis and parts of St. Louis County, and it leans heavily Democratic.
