UNITED NATIONS, Aug 06 (APP):Pakistan has urged the UN Security Council to address the ongoing repression in Indian-Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), warning that India has intensified its efforts to impose irreversible changes aimed at transforming the demographic, political, and cultural identity of the occupied territory.
“Political repression remains pervasive throughout IIOJK,” Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar wrote in a letter addressed to Ambassador Christina Markus Lassen, Denmark’s Permanent Representative and current President of the Security Council.
The letter was delivered to the Council’s president by Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN.
The diplomatic correspondence marks the seventh anniversary of India’s unilateral actions on August 5, 2019 that Pakistan and the UN say violate international law, the UN Charter, and relevant Security Council resolutions.
It further notes the continued restrictions on sixteen political organizations representing the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
