Sana’a – The military spokesperson for Yemen’s Houthi movement announced Wednesday that the group targeted a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea. According to the statement, Houthi forces struck the vessel Wafaa near the port of Yanbu using ballistic missiles, claiming a “precise hit.” The announcement follows Tuesday’s declaration by the Houthis that they had attacked a “sensitive target” inside Najran airport in southern Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, the Yemeni government earlier accused the Houthis of being behind an attack on an Indian vessel in the Red Sea using an explosive-laden boat. Since November 2023, the Houthis have escalated their campaign against commercial shipping in the Red Sea, employing missiles, drones, and explosive boats to disrupt one of the world’s most critical trade and energy routes.
