A US senator’s bill proposes strengthening standards on tracing recycled plastic and giving consumers more visibility into the environmental impacts of the products they are buying. Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA), along with three other senators, introduced the Tracking Plastic Act of 2026, which would establish a working group to improve how recycled plastic is traced, measured, and reported. The bill also aims to target fraud and mislabeling, reduce errors, and verify the origins of recycled plastic, to provide consumers with more information about the environmental impact of the products they purchase, according to a news release from Schiff’s office. “Our legislation will crack down on companies that mislead the public on their reporting of recycled plastic content.” If the legislation passes, the working group will submit annual reports to Congress on activities, recommendations, and issues.
