Pasifika Medical Association Conference Marks 30 Years Of Service To Pacific HealthThe Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) Conference officially opened today, bringing together Pacific health leaders, clinicians, researchers and emerging professionals to celebrate 30 years of service under the theme, "The Pathway to Leadership is Service."
Opening the conference, PMA Patron Lord Tangi 'o Vaonukonuka reflected on the growth of the Pacific health workforce, describing a journey from humble beginnings to "a large sea of health professionals from the Pacific."
PMA President Dr Kiki Maoate ONZM FRACS challenged attendees to recognise that leadership already exists within the Pacific community, particularly among young people.
"Thirty years ago, visionary Pacific leaders came together with a powerful belief that Pacific peoples deserve better health outcomes and greater opportunities," he said.
Echoing these messages, PMA Board Director, Sir Collin Tukuitonga KNZM said leadership is grounded in service, calling on health professionals to have the courage to speak up for their communities.
