The nłeʔképmx Guardians are among those contributing to the current wildfire response. For the nłeʔképmx Guardians, wildfire readiness is part of a larger responsibility carried throughout the year. Their presence on the Fireline also shows that wildfire response is carried by more than one organization. Provincial crews, First Nations firefighters, Guardians, emergency workers, volunteers and community members each bring different skills to the response. Wildfires may bring the Guardians’ work into public view, but their ability to respond begins long before flames appear.
