The Rockets have waived guard JD Davison, the team announced today. Houston picked up its 2026/27 team option on Davison in June, but his $2,584,539 salary remained entirely non-guaranteed even after that option was exercised. As a result, the Rockets won’t carry any dead money on their cap for Davison, whether or not he’s claimed on waivers. Davison, the 53rd overall pick in the 2022 draft, spent his first three NBA seasons on two-way contracts with the Celtics but appeared in just 36 total regular season games for Boston, averaging 5.5 minutes per contest. As a result of waiving Davison, the Rockets have moved below the luxury tax line by a mere $14,077, tweets Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron.
