Minister for Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Tan See Leng defended Singapore's economic model in Parliament on 5 Aug, saying it has delivered good jobs, rising incomes and social mobility over generations, even as the Government adapts it to a changing global landscape. Responding to a Workers' Party motion calling for reforms to Singapore's economic strategy, Tan said the country's approach has never been about growth for its own sake, but about ensuring the benefits are broadly shared. Of these, 40 were banned from driving for life, while the remaining offenders received an average driving disqualification of 38 months. Shanmugam, who is also Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, was responding to a parliamentary question from Workers' Party MP Jamus Lim (Sengkang GRC).
