They had just won the Yorkshire Schools Cricket Association title for the second year running, the first side to go back-to-back. Four of the starting XI studied at Hanson School, but the standout among them was Bradford youngster David Bairstow. But his talent for cricket was evident, and only a few years after this Bradford Schools achievement, Bairstow debuted for Yorkshire against Gloucestershire. David Bairstow (bottom left) showed his talents early on at Hanson Grammar School, a key part of their squad here in 1963. His sons have done him proud in the cricketing world since, with Andrew carving out a fine Bradford League career, while Jonny currently captains Yorkshire.
