The Phoenix, in Bridge Street, could swap pints for groceries if proposals to convert the vacant building into a shop are approved. Plans include widening the two front display windows to improve the retail frontage, while retaining the existing doors, windows and other architectural features. The planning application says converting the vacant building would bring it back into active use and boost the town centre. “The proposed external alterations are minimal and sympathetic to the existing building, while access, servicing and waste management arrangements remain suitable for the proposed use.
