A former Bulldog is suiting up for a new hockey team this fall. Derek Daschke is set to join the ECHL’s New Mexico Goatheads for the 2026-27 season. The defenseman, who is from Troy, Michigan, spent last season splitting his time between the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings and Finland’s Liiga team Lukko, where he put up 12 points in 32 games. Daschke played for UMD during the 2022-23 season, scoring 2 goals and adding 14 assists in 37 games.
