A middle-aged Macau man lost a total of HKD2.88 million after falling victim to a fake “public security and judicial authorities” scam, the Judiciary Police said. The victim received a call on July 22 from someone claiming to be a mainland police officer, alleging that his phone number was linked to scam messages. The fraudsters later conducted a fake video investigation via FaceTime and tricked him into sharing his screen, allowing them to access his banking details.
