Firefighters attended a field between Westquay South and The Quays Swimming and Diving Complex around 1.30 pm in Southampton today after nearby residents reported hearing a bang and seeing smoke. Trees and shrubs at the corner of the field were involved in the fire. "It’s in an area which until very recently had a small camp of homeless people living in it." They added: "I live nearby, on top of the walls, so it’s not great with the smoke coming in through the windows. Another resident said she was about to go to sleep when she heard a bang and then saw the fire.
