NATO’s command coordinating military aid to Ukraine is expected to pass to a European or Canadian officer in about a year, and will absorb elements of the American-led Security Assistance Group Ukraine, according to NATO. NSATU is the command responsible for coordinating the provision of military equipment and training to Ukraine by NATO allies and partner countries. Grynkewich said the organisation would continue to evolve, with the eventual transfer of command to a European or Canadian officer and the migration of work from the Security Assistance Group Ukraine into NSATU. NATO said the transition would contribute to greater effectiveness and have no impact on support to Ukraine, which remains a top priority. The Security Assistance Group Ukraine, also based in Wiesbaden, was created by the United States in 2022 to coordinate training and equipment delivery, and has operated alongside NSATU since the NATO command stood up.
